Summer is steadily coming to an end and it is time to start preparing for the upcoming school year! The first day of school for all students in the Lafayette parish is August 10 and August 11. It is important that as a parent, to ensure your child is fully prepared for the exhausting school year.
Here are a few tips from Sheltering Arms to ease those first few-days-of-school jitters:
Stick to a routine. Going to bed at an earlier time and waking up at the same time each day will help your child to stay focused in school instead of being groggy during the day.
Prepare uniform clothing and lunches for the week. Put your child's uniform clothing on their bed the night before school and prepare their lunches at the beginning of the week. As a parent, this will help those busy and overwhelming mornings! You will save time by already being prepared!
Give encouragement. Mental health well-being is important no matter what age. When it is time for your child to walk into their first class of the day, be sure to give them some words of kindness. Remember, your child is probably just as nervous as you. Every morning, vocalize positive affirmations to your child as well as when they arrive home. Doing so will help the child to be the best they can be as a person and possibly receive good grades throughout the school year.
